I know that the Wehrmacht wouldn't have been able to replace the Kar98k with the Gewehr 43 but the Russians managed to get enough of their semi-automatic rifles produced. I have a few questions in mind Was the real reason why a semi-automatic rifle was not succesfully made in because of lack of interest, the advisement that no holes be drilled into the barrel, or did Walther Firearms genuinley where unaware about the gas system used in existing semi-auto's ie: The SVT38?
